Ultimate Green Juice Recipe (Plus Learn the Benefits)
By Holly Darnell, RD
May 7, 2024
Most of us seek to be healthier, and we know that diet plays a major role is accomplishing that vital goal, right? Well, the classic green juice drink has been around for decades as one step in the healthy direction, for example as a morning drink to get your day started right.
These days, green juice is more popular than ever with how much cheaper juicers are and with super green powders one of the most sought-after supplements. (And it's a great way to consume more greens.)
We’ve decided to do you one better, creating the ultimate green juice recipe, with the best ingredients for a green juice, and add our own super greens powder — such as the new Organic Super Greens Mango powder or berry-flavored powder — to further amplify the nutrient value of this drink. Talk about firing up your body!
A major wellness trend, green juice is often a blend of mostly green veggies that are juiced together into a healthy drink. Sometimes a fruit juice is added, but that tends to add more sugar than most green juice aficionados desire — so a better option is a whole fruit, such as a green apple, pear or lime.
What kind of green vegetables are used in a classic green juice? Swiss chard, kale, spinach, cucumber, celery and parsley are just a few popular options.
Typically a quality juicer is used in making green juice and other juicing recipes, but you can also use a high-speed blender and then strain the pulp through a mesh sieve (twice to get all the juice out).
The green juice liquid is loaded with nutrients, including vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals found in the veggies and fruit. Green juice helps support your immune system, healthy inflammation levels, weight management and more.
Consider drinking in the morning, as an empty stomach can lead to better nutrient absorption.
How does green juice compare to a green smoothie? Well, studies indicate that green juice may contain more vitamin C, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene and potassium than a green smoothie, in part because it uses so many more vegetables in the recipe.
Plus, when you add our supplement Organic SuperGreens as the powder, the benefits include:
Detoxifying — Support your cleaning system (liver, kidneys and immune system) with plenty of nutrients. Want to know how to detox your body? Start here.
More nutrients — Organic SuperGreens are loaded with 25-plus power-packed superfoods containing key plant compounds. You're also get micro-algae like spirulina and chlorella.
Boost healthy energy levels — Meeting your nutrient needs should give you more energy.
Support healthy digestion and overall gut health — Our Organic SuperGreens powders include a proprietary, clinically studied probiotic called Bacillus coagulans. This helps support absorption of other nutrients and offers many other digestive benefits.
Reduces occasional constipation, gas and bloating — The greens and probiotic benefits extend to alleviating these issues.
Better adapt to stress — Organic SuperGreens contain the adaptogens ashwagandha, reishi, cordyceps and astragalus that generally help your body stay in balance.
Rich in vitamins and minerals: Greens are loaded with essential vitamins like Vitamin A, C and K, vital for healthy vision, immune system support and blood, respectively. They're also a good source of minerals like iron, calcium and magnesium, which support bones, muscles and energy.
Support a healthy immune system: Studies suggest that including greens in your diet may help a healthy immune system work optimally.
Healthy weight management: Due to their low-calorie, high-nutrient content, greens can be a valuable tool for healthy weight management. They can help you feel satisfied without adding excess calories.
This recipe goes long on greens, including both leafy greens and green vegetables, as well as many other great ingredients that make for a delicious green juice.
Leafy greens: Kale and baby spinach produces tons of nutrition plus that gorgeous green color.
Cucumber: Cucumber juice by itself is popular because it's refreshing, water-filled, low calorie and mild in taste.
Celery: Celery juice is another trendy drink; it also contains several key compounds that support healthy inflammation levels
Green apple: Will provide some natural sweetness and pectin.
Parsley: It adds some peppery flavor and works as a digestive aid. Flat leafy parsley is stronger than the curly variety.
Ginger: This adds some spice from the compound gingerol and adds some sophistication to the overall flavor.
Lemon: An excellent source of vitamin C and antioxidants, the flavor also marries well with the other flavors.
Cayenne: Great for the gut, it also supports detoxification and supports healthy weight management.
Coconut water: Excellent hydrator as well as flavor enhancer.
Organic SuperGreens Powders: This is how you boost your green juice with superfoods. Each scoop delivers 25 organic superfoods, like cleansing greens, fermented mushrooms, antioxidant-filled berries and adaptogenic herbs. Flavors include greens, mango, berry, watermelon and more.
In a high-speed blender, add celery, cucumber, apple, kale, spinach, parsley, ginger, lemon, cayenne, Ancient Nutrition SuperGreens (pick your flavor!) and coconut water.
Strain through a mesh sieve twice to remove pulp. (Save the pulp for a smoothie.)
If using a juicer, juice celery, cucumber, apple, kale, spinach, parsley, ginger and lemon. (Not the coconut water.) Add the juice to a large glass, and whisk in Ancient Nutrition Super Greens until fully combined. Optionally stir in the coconut water.
Add to a glass with ice to drink immediately, or chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
This recipe will produce a fabulous green juice, but you should feel free to vary the ingredients based on what's available and fresh. Check out these hints:
Vary your greens: Kale and spinach is only a couple of the many leafy greens that can work. Radish or mustard greens, collard greens, bok choy and more are great candidates.
Herb your enthusiasm: You can go beyond parsley, include using basil, cilantro and mint.
Spice it up: Besides cayenne, turmeric, ceylon cinnamon and apple cider vinegar can make great additions, for their health benefits as well as flavor adds.
How long can this green juice be stored?
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Juices can last for up to 24–48 hours.
What can be done with the leftover pulp?
You can amp up a smoothie with this nutrition-rich pulp. (Or make a super green smoothie.) Just know that it will make your smoothie somewhat chunky. You can also include it in a soup.
