Ginger Turmeric Shots
By Holly Darnell, RD
April 21, 2023
A wellness trend that isn’t going away are so-called “wellness shots”: Small amounts of nutrient-dense liquid that are designed to boost one's health. One of the most popular are ginger turmeric shots.
But rather than buying them at a premium, make your own … with the best ingredients you can find. This recipe delivers on that promise, as it goes above and beyond to produce a superior ginger and turmeric shot.
We actually recommend that you make this as ginger turmeric ice cubes, so you can make a nice batch of them to store and use daily, either as an ice cube or allow to melt into a perfect turmeric and ginger shot. (You can also have a shot on the spot!)
To maximize the flavor and benefits of these ginger turmeric shots, they include more than just those two ingredients.
First up is lemon juice, squeezed from fresh lemons. Teeming with vitamin C and adding a tangy taste, they help make this drink fun and healthy.
Coconut water is also used, as it provides both electrolytes, vital hydration and that pleasant coconut flavor.
Tumeric and ginger are the headliners, as you know. The best source are peeling and chopping the actual root, but you can also simply use the spice powder version. Both are loaded with antioxidants and health benefits, including supporting a healthy response to inflammation.
Black pepper is also used, for it adds a spicy flavor and possesses major antioxidant properties.
Lastly, we include two vital Ancient Nutrition products: Herbal Cider Vinegar and Multi Collagen Protein Gut Restore (lemon ginger flavor).
Herbal Cider Vinegar Tincture features a powerful blend of fermented apple cider vinegar and 10+ organic superfoods grown right on our own regenerative farm. These include such superfoods as turmeric, moringa leaf, sumac berry, guava, passionfruit, holy basil leaf, elderberry, key lime, feijoa and goji.
We use only organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, ensuring that the bacteria and yeasts used to ferment the apples into vinegar are still present.
Herbal Cider Vinegar helps support healthy microbial balance, healthy weight, healthy detoxification and a healthy gut.
Multi Collagen Protein Gut Restore includes several ingredients to support the gut and beyond. For example, 2 billion CFU of soil-based organism (SBO) probiotics, two forms of glutamine to support the gut lining and clinically studied fermented eggshell membrane collagen, which helps reduce joint discomfort, crow’s feet appearance and hair breakage.
Okay, this is an easy one to make. In a high-speed blender, add lemon juice, Herbal Cider Vinegar, coconut water, ginger, turmeric, black pepper and the lemon ginger collagen powder. Blend on high for three minutes or until ginger has completely blended.
If the turmeric stains your blender, use a ratio of 2:1 hot water and white vinegar. Allow to sit in the sun to bleach the stain. Allow to soak for 3–4 hours.
Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray (about two tablespoons into each slot). Cover and freeze for at least 6 hours, but best if left overnight. (You can also pour out one live shot for yourself right now and gulp it down!)
When ready to serve, drop one cube into a small glass and let melt for a simple turmeric and ginger shot.
Or add to a mug and add eight ounces of hot water. Stir to dissolve and drink immediately.
Lastly, you can use as an ice cube in a small glass of water.
Leftover ice cubes can be removed from the mold and stored in the freezer in a freezer safe bag or container.

How to Hydrate Skin
Even if you employ a daily skincare routine, many of us get frustrated with the results. It’s hard to be happy with the way your skin looks if it’s occasionally dry, dull or sensitive, which is why skin hydration is so important. With loads of serums, moisturizers and beauty routines (such as the new trend called skin cycling) available, it’s difficult to know what really hydrates skin versus what’s a waste of your money and time.
