DIY Wellness Shots that Support the Gut, Brain & More

Wellness shots

Have you seen this wellness trend? Wellness shots are typically small bottles that feature certain nutrients and are designed to boost one's health, such as promoting a healthy immune system or working as energy boosters or detox drinks. They can also be fairly pricey for such a small drink.

Instead, consider making your own. These DIY wellness shots are loaded with select extracts, herbs and spices to give you a boost, such as for your gut and more. Recipes for healthy detoxification-supporting shots were also created.

Wellness Shots Ingredients

These five wellness shots all feature apple cider vinegar (ACV). The health benefits of apple cider vinegar are impressive and include:

  • Can help support healthy microbial balance.

  • May support overall healthy weight management and a healthy body composition (when combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle, including exercise).

  • May help support appetite control; some find that consuming ACV reduces cravings and supports satiety.

  • Promotes a healthy pH balance, due to the acidic qualities of vinegar.

  • Can offer support for cardiovascular health (in animal studies).

  • Supports healthy body composition, including healthy bodily fat (visceral and subcutaneous fat mass).

  • Promotes healthy antioxidant levels (in animal studies) and supports healthy oxidative stress levels (in adults).

  • Provides bioactive compounds, including amino acids, organic acids and polyphenols.

Organic apple cider vinegar is typically unfiltered, meaning bacteria and yeasts used to ferment the apples into vinegar remain intact (these are known as "the mother"). These microbes are beneficial for health, so we don’t want to lose them if the ACV is processed and filtered. Look for organic ACV with a slightly cloudy appearance to know it hasn’t been filtered.

Other valuable, health-supporting ingredients in these wellness shots include turmeric powder, cayenne pepper, ginger, beetroot powder, and kale and spinach.

How to Make Wellness Shots

Ideally, you have a juicer along with small glass bottles with caps in order to store them, such as for the week. (They stay good for around five days.) You can also pour them out right there for yourself and loved ones. Each recipe makes several wellness shots, which are usually one to three ounces.

No juicer? You can also use a power blender, a fine mesh strainer and a bowl.

Each of these recipes make several wellness shots, which usually are one to three ounces.

The Immune Supporting Shot uses ginger, lemon, coconut water, apple cider vinegar, turmeric and cayenne. A similar wellness shot is our turmeric shot or ginger shot.

The Gut Support Shot uses pineapple, ginger, coconut water, ACV, turmeric and cayenne. Looking for another drink with turmeric? Try our iced golden milk latte.

The Energy Boosting Shot uses a carrot, ginger, lemon, beetroot powder, coconut water and ACV.

The Metabolism Support Shot uses celery, a green apple, ginger, lemon, coconut water and ACV.

The Brain Boosting Shot uses kale, spinach, a red apple, ginger, lemon, coconut water and ACV. For another green drink, try our ultimate green juice recipe.

Once you have your ingredients ready to go, simply juice the first few ingredients before coconut water. Pour into a small container or bowl, then add the coconut water, ACV and potential herbs. Mix until combined.

Pour into small bottles and store in the refrigerator up to five days. Or pour out two ounce portions into several small glasses for yourself and others. Enjoy!
