This chocolate smoothie is packed with protein, good fats and nutrients. It's bound to give your morning the kick-start it needs. Whip up this simple and easy dark chocolate protein smoothie and give both your taste buds and stomach some extra love. It also made our list of high-protein breakfast ideas as well as easy breakfast ideas.
It's powered by Bone Broth Protein Chocolate, a hearty and delicious flavor full of gut and joint benefits. This chocolate protein shake is also a perfect macronutrient snack by itself, such as after a workout, with 224 calories, 18 grams of healthy carbs, 23 (!) grams of protein and 7 grams of performance fats.
The fastest way to make a chocolate protein shake is just water, ice and protein powder. But if you want to up the taste AND the nutrient load, we recommend that you also use the following ingredients. They also help deliver a balanced macronutrient smoothie with great texture.
Unsweetened almond milk makes for a great base, at its thick and creamy with a hint of almond taste. It also contains half a day’s recommended intake of vitamin E, a significant amount of vitamin D (if store-bought) and a hearty dose of calcium.
Rolled oats add that little bit of texture, plus they offer fiber, trace minerals and plant-based protein.
Coconut oil adds healthy fats, in particular medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). Did you know that the MCFAs found in coconut oil provide the perfect source of energy because they only have to go through a three-step process to be turned into fuel, as opposed to other fats that have to go through a 26-step process?
For some more genuine dark chocolate taste, we turn to cocoa powder, which is high in antioxidants, including several polyphenols — such as flavonoids and phenylethylamine.
Speaking of chocolate, the Bone Broth Protein Chocolate delivers a delicious chocolate taste in a protein powder that features collagen type 2, glucosamine, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid and 18 amino acids — supporting your joints, gut and skin. Each scoop is 20 grams of protein.
Lastly, Medjool dates are used for natural sweetness. Plus, they're packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber.
Fortunately, this one is a cinch! Simply add all the ingredients together in a high-powered blender.
Blend until well-combined. Add a little water if you want it to be more liquid-y.
