S’mores Christmas mocktail

Christmas is a time for many things that we normally don’t have. Christmas sugar cookies, Pfeffernüsse cookies, eggnog, standing rib roasts, yule logs … gifts under the tree! But what about the perfect Christmas mocktail?

If you’re not into the alcoholic Christmas cocktail (such as a hot toddy) or you’re serving a bunch of kids, then welcome to this divine S’mores Mocktail. It’s mind-blowingly tasty and yes, even good for you.

Key Ingredients

First, you’re going to making up a toasted marshmallow simple syrup. Rather than use the conventional variety, opt for the vegan version, some of which use pea protein.

The sweet part will come from maple syrup, which is one of the great natural sweeteners that doesn’t jack your blood sugar like white sugar. Vanilla extract is also used for perfect flavoring.

Speaking of, ginger is also called up on for a flavor change-up. Plus, it’s loaded with antioxidants and health benefits, including supporting a healthy response to inflammation.

For the drinking chocolate part, you’ll be using classic dark chocolate, ideally 70 percent cacao or higher. Dark chocolate is full of both antioxidants and polyphenols, both of which are important for your brain and heart health.

The protein comes from Bone Broth Protein Chocolate to bring the recipe up to 11 grams of protein per serving, plus it helps deliver joint and gut benefits. You can also substitute Multi Collagen Protein Chocolate for skin benefits as well.

Lastly, some graham cracker crumbs are a fun addition at the end.

How to Make a S’mores Mocktail

First, you’re going to make up the sublime toasted marshmallow simple syrup. Preheat the oven to broil on high. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.

Place marshmallows on the pan and broil on high for two to three minutes, until the tops have started to brown and turn golden. Set aside and allow to cool.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, add in water and bring to a boil. Whisk in maple syrup.

Add in a few marshmallows at a time with a spatula and whisk until fully combined and completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl. Then add in vanilla extract. Whisk until fully combined and set aside.

Next, it’s time for the hot chocolate part. In a medium saucepan, add in dark chocolate, Bone Broth Protein Chocolate powder, almond milk (or oat) and sea salt. Heat on low heat, whisking regularly until the chocolate is completely melted.

Remove from the heat and add in vanilla extract. Whisk in marshmallow simple syrup until completely combined.

Dip the rim of the glass in melted dark chocolate and then in graham cracker crumbs. Divide the sipping chocolate into four glasses.
